The new government-appointed chairman of Government Motors admits that he doesn't know anything about cars.

 

The Obama Administration has resorted to paying the island nation of Palau to take the Uighurs at Guantanamo Bay.

 

Obama yesterday announced that he wants to see a return of pay-as-you-go funding rules, except for health care.  In Congress, some members want to add meditation to the bill, in addition to mental health and dental coverage.  Minority lawmakers are, of course, turning health care into a racial issue.  For a preview of what we may be facing under socialist medicine, a stroke patient died in the United Kingdom after the government-employed ambulance driver clocked out at the end of his shift instead of taking the patient to the hospital.   A former Canadian doctor tells us about the effects of their socialist medicine program.

 

The Islamic terrorist who killed the new soldier and wounded another at a military recruiting station in Arkansas last week says that he doesn't believe that he is guilty of murder because he thinks he was justified in killing the soldiers.

 

The federal government is going after the bank accounts of online gamblers thanks to the Republicans' 2006 law to ban online gambling.  Now Barney Frank is sponsoring a bill to legalize internet gambling.  Who wins that debate in public opinion?

 

Despite promises of there being no pork in the "stimulus" package, members of Congress, including members who voted against it, have been requesting projects for their districts.  A plurality of Americans, seeing how much success the "stimulus" has had, want to cancel the rest of the spending but keep the "tax cuts."  Obama's approval ratings on dealing with the budget deficit and reining in federal spending are dropping quickly, in large part due to the "stimulus."

 

Clown Prince Vice President Joe Biden told law enforcement groups on Monday that Sonia Sotomayor "has your back."  I've decided the new career that Biden needs to have if Obama drops him, but you'll have to hear me announce it on the air.

 

Sotomayor fractured her ankle Monday in an airport.  We wish her a speedy recovery, and a wise Latina woman doctor with the richness of experience to make better medical decisions than a white male would.

 

Forty-one percent of Americans believe that the quality of cars produced by Government Motors will suffer, and just 42% of GM owners say that they are likely to buy GM again.  Unfortunately, we may end up seeing a mass boycott of Government Motors.

 

Obama's former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, says that he can't talk to Obama anymore because of "them Jews" in the White House.

 

Bad news for Republicans:  one out of every three self-proclaimed Republicans views their party unfavorably.

 

The editor-at-large of Newsweek Magazine called President Obama "sort of God."  A columnist in San Francisco tells the media and Obama to "get a room."  Have you figured out yet why I call them the "navel-gazing media?"

 

High tech companies are enlisting a former Clinton Administration official to try to defeat the Obama plan to chase their profits overseas.

 

Government at work:  The Energy Department failed its own energy audit.

 

Here's a shocker:  Despite the hope and change and love and kum-ba-yah from the Obama administration, only 29% of Iranians have favorable views of the United States.

Sorry folks, but due to illness my voice is gone.  We will have a best-of show today, but here's some stuff worth reading anyway.

 

Today's must-read:  For those of you who have not read Atlas Shrugged, here's a summary of some of the principles of the book.  I still recommend you go read it.

 

Big government spending programs are having the opposite effect that they were intended to have, but the effect that I told you they would have.  The Obama administration is responding by doubling down and pushing to spend more "stimulus" money faster.

 

President Obama is set to take a greater role in the health care debate.  He'll go out across the country trying to sell his socialist medicine scheme.  The bill being worked on by Senator Edward Kennedy is by far the most liberal plan yet, including mandates to all employers to provide health insurance for their employees and a government health care option.  Obama is pushing a tax hike on the rich to pay for whatever comes out of Congress.

 

It's about time somebody else says this:  Judicial activism isn't the issue, the problem is that judges of all ideological stripes show too much deference to Congress and refuse to enforce Constitutional restrictions on their power.

 

The skeptical International Conference on Climate Change, or ICCC, met this weekend.  I especially love the line "how do you control the weather?"  The warmers issued a report last week on the effects of "climate change" that was a lie.  Meanwhile, snow fell in parts of North Dakota Saturday (in June!), warmers are pushing a new international tax on air travel, and nobody in the United States wants to buy a Prius.

 

While the United States continues to move to the left, Europe is actually moving to the right.

 

Here's an interesting analogy:  al Qaeda is like a fast food franchise for terrorism in that there is no central control for them.  It also proves that the real enemy is a radical Islamist agenda, not just certain groups.

 

The navel-gazing media is in full cover mode for the President, with US News and World Report saying that Obama's flip-flops are for the public good, and Newsweek editor Evan Thomas said that Obama's "sort of God."  I wish I was kidding.

 

GE/NBC punished a newspaper for publishing a story about a shareholder meeting in which the company was asked if they were ordering CNBC to back off of criticism of President Obama.

 

The state of Georgia spent $96 million to lure NCR to the state.  This will turn out to be a bargain, and proof that eliminating corporate taxes will bring jobs to the state.

Obama's "Pay Czar"

The White House is set to appoint a "pay czar" to make sure that bailed-out companies are abiding by executive pay guidelines.  They start with bailed-out companies, but next could be companies that receive special tax breaks, or that do business with the government, or that is just so big that the federal government wants to dictate how much the executives are allowed to earn.

 

The unemployment rate in May jumped to 9.4%, the highest since 1983 and worse than expected.  The White House's response is to try and spend the "stimulus" money faster.  Most of the trips that the President and Vice President have made to sell and promote the "stimulus" package have been to states that they won in November, in preparation for a re-election bid in 2012.

 

The South Carolina Supreme Court is forcing Governor Mark Sanford to accept "stimulus" money.

 

Sonia Sotomayor has made references to "wise women" and "wise Latina women" making better decisions than white men multiple times between 1994 and 2003.  She didn't misspeak, no matter how much the Obama White House wants you to believe that she did.

 

Here's a shocker:  the CEO of Microsoft says that the company would leave the United States if the Obama Administration plan to raise taxes on foreign profits passes.  He says that it would make jobs in the United States more expensive.

 

Barney Frank personally called the CEO of Government Motors to protect a plant in his district, and it worked.  In other auto news, Roger Penske is buying Saturn from GM.

 

Harry Reid wants to pass amnesty this year.  I told you this was coming; it just got put off by some of the other things the Democrats want to accomplish.

 

Apparently Obama is killing the "progressive" movement.  If only that was the case.

 

Iran is now running 5,000 centrifuges, accumulating enough uranium to produce a nuclear weapon if they enrich it more.

 

A new NASA study acknowledges that the sun is responsible for global warming since the Industrial Revolution.

 

The IRS is trying to require tax preparers to get licensed.

 

The latest czar is the "Great Lakes Clean Up Czar."

 

Senate Democrats are pushing to get Guantanamo Bay detainees to American shores.  I think we should only send them to states represented by those Democrats.

 

Former Vice President Dick Cheney has higher approval ratings than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

 

The Obama Administration's plan to get bad assets off the books of banks has been scrapped after nobody wanted to participate in the program.

 

The Democrat mayor of Ray City is running for Governor.  I'm sure Roy Barnes cares.  When he entered the race Congressional Quarterly upgraded the Democrats' chances of winning the election next year.

 

Georgia revenues dropped 14% last month, and Governor Perdue had to meet today with state judges to keep them from suing the state.

Obama's Speech to the Muslim World

President Obama gave his big speech to the Muslim world from Cairo, Egypt today.  Like most of his speeches, I didn't watch it.  I read the transcript, which you can find here.  My initial reaction is that it is a good speech given the audience.  Israel will not like it, but maybe some mainstream Muslims will be swayed by the speech.  Is it naïve and ignorant?  Yes, but consider who he's talking to.  It will not work with the Muslims who are already radical, as Iran is already criticizing him for the speech, saying that the "sweet talk" will not sway them.  Osama bin Laden is encouraging Muslims to prepare for a "long war" against infidels.

 

Check out this little gem from Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) statement on "global warming."  Oh, and guess who would profit from having a "low carbon economy?"

 

The longer American students are in school, the farther behind the rest of the world they fall in terms of math and science education.

It appears that the FBI was ordered to back off of investigations of radicalized converts to Islam like the guy who murdered a new soldier last week in Arkansas.

 

One out of every six dollars of Americans' income is in the form of a government check or voucher.

 

Al Qaida is looking for volunteers to sneak bioweapons across the Southern border into the United States.

 

Sonia Sotomayor made a statement indicating that women make better judges back in 1994, before her statement about Latina women making better judges in 2001.  Harry Reid is hoping that he will not have to read any of Sotomayor's opinions.

 

President Obama is demanding a government-run health care option modeled after Massachusetts' socialized medicine plan.  Here's a preview of what that looks like, courtesy of Mitt Romney.  This alone should disqualify him from being the Republican nominee for President.  A socialist from Canada is in Washington to promote socialized medicine here.

 

Top executives for Chrysler and GM were grilled yesterday on why they are closing dealerships across the country.  The Chrysler bankruptcy might not go as quickly or as smoothly as originally thought, because a federal appeals court will hear tomorrow from some of the bondholders who believe that the bankruptcy is unconstitutional.

 

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke warns that large budget deficits threaten financial stability, and former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan calls the idea of "too big to fail" and subsequent bailouts the biggest threat to the economic future of the United States.

 

Roy Barnes acknowledged yesterday that he made mistakes in his term as Governor, but assures voters that he has learned from them.  Washington may have already jumped into the race behind Barnes.

 

Clown Prince Vice President Joe Biden managed to make Governor Perdue a supporter of high-speed rail, as long as the federal government pays for it with "stimulus" money.

Obama in Middle East

Clown Prince Vice President Joe Biden says that some waste is inevitable in the "stimulus" package, and that some people will get scammed.  Right now, it's the American people getting scammed if they are falling for this "jobs saved" nonsense.

 

President Obama didn't change his mind on detainee photos because he cared about national security; he only did it because Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki told him not to release the photos.

 

President Obama is visiting the middle east to try and smooth relations with the Muslim world, and all of a sudden he's embracing his Muslim roots and even saying that the United States is one of the world's largest Muslim countries.  He started his trip with a visit to Saudi King Abdullah.  Currently, few Americans have a favorable view of the Muslim world, and only 28% think that Obama is going to improve relations in the next year.  Meanwhile, our best ally, Israel, is getting more anxious about Obama's policies.

 

After being partially nationalized, Government Motors will still be able to lobby the government.  I bet they're lobbying hard for the "cash for clunkers" program.  By the way, this nationalization and bailout probably won't be over after the bankruptcy proceedings end, and won't be anytime soon.

 

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called Obama his "comrade" and feared that he and Fidel Castro might end up to Obama's right.

 

Some of the large banks are trying to get the feds to allow them to repay the TARP money after the Treasury Department forced the banks to take the money.

 

The Senate has released their proposals for taxing alcohol and sugar-sweetened drinks to pay for socialized medicine.  President Obama is also considering taxing private health care benefits.  They have to rush to get this thing passed because they don't think it can stand up to public scrutiny.

 

The incompetence continues:  the federal government accidentally released a report giving details about civilian nuclear facilities.

 

Newt Gingrich backed off of his statement that Sonia Sotomayor is a racist.  I think Newt just got weak at the knees.  Support for Sotomayor is dropping.

 

Roy Barnes made it official:  he is running for Governor next year.  He is already polling well.  Everybody seems to be reacting, especially David Poythress, who made it perfectly clear that he will not leave the race.

 

The latest state service that should be handled by the private sector is a tool to help people shop for prescriptions and other health care.

 

John "the Fascist" Oxendine is trying to explain away his appointment of the head of an insurance company to a board that regulates insurance companies.

 

A Houston County Commissioner called members of the Warner Robins City Council after the council suspended her husband's pub's liquor license.

Obama: Iran Has a Right to Nukes

President Obama says that Iran has a right to pursue nuclear power, as long as they show that it is peaceful.  Trust, but don't verify.  Iranian diplomats will be invited to Independence Day parties.  I'm sure they'll start to love us after that.

 

The Senate today passed a cloture motion on a bill to give the FDA regulatory control over tobacco.  Both Chambliss and Isakson voted for cloture.

 

Former Vice President Dick Cheney supports gay marriage, but only when that decision is made by states, not the federal government.

 

The biggest winner from the GM and Chrysler bankruptcies could be Ford, as some warn that customers may stay away from a nationalized GM.

GM Declares Bankruptcy

Here is your must-read of the day:  American capitalism gone with a whimper.

 

The excuse from the White House about Sonia Sotomayor's statement about a Latina woman making better decisions than a white male is that she regrets her choice of words.  Senator Lindsay Graham wants Sotomayor to apologize for her statement.  Andy McCarthy says that, based on Sotomayor's ideas on race, she would not be able to qualify as a juror.  Chuck Schumer says that Sotomayor is "filibuster-proof," which says more about the size of the Democrat majority than about Sotomayor.

 

Timothy Geithner has gone to China to try and reassure the Chinese government that the Obama administration will try to control borrowing.

 

Congratulations, taxpayers!  You are now the proud owner of 60% of Government Motors, also known as the Obama Motor Company.

 

President Obama spent at least $24,000 in taxpayer money to take Michelle on a date Saturday. Members of Congress are also using your money to buy things for themselves like TVs, cameras, and a Lexus.

State budget cuts have cut "equalization" funding that transfers money from rich school districts to poor ones, but at least Georgia now has a free service so parents can find child care!

 

The Justice Department rejected Georgia's voter screening program meant to find ineligible voters.  This is the same Justice Department that just threw out charges against members of the New Black Panther Party who were carrying clubs at polling places in Philadelphia last year.

 

Houston County says that it is likely to increase property taxes next year.

GM Bondholders Cave to Administration Demands

President Obama travelled to Las Vegas and Los Angeles the last two days, raising money for Harry Reid and the Democrat Party.  It will cost taxpayers at least $265,000 for just one leg of that trip.  The White House justified the trip by having some "official" remarks on solar energy while in Nevada.  While in Los Angeles Obama told attendees that "You ain't seen nothing yet."  Just wait until they socialize health care.

 

Obama Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor went to the left of the Ninth Circus Court of Appeals in a decision on the Second Amendment.  She has also ruled against a government school student who was forbidden from running for student government after making comments critical of school officials.  Abortion rights supporters are not convinced on Sotomayor yet, so she might even get a challenge from the left.  Meanwhile, the White House is doing rhetorical gymnastics in an attempt to defend Sotomayor's racist statement about a Latina woman making better decisions than a white man.  They are also warning opponents to be "careful" in opposing Sotomayor, and it looks like Republican Senators might back off of opposing her.  Already 87% of Americans believe that she will be confirmed, including me.

 

Clown Prince Vice President Joe Biden is the latest person to make a joke about Barack's Teleprompter.

 

GM bondholders have been "encouraged" to accept the latest bankruptcy deal that will leave the federal government in control of 72.5% of the company.  Meanwhile, a plurality of Michiganders believes that the Obama administration has harmed the domestic auto industry.  Meanwhile, more evidence continues to surface that the list of cut Chrysler dealers was politically motivated.

 

Nancy Pelosi went to China to talk about "global warming."  She says that "every aspect of our lives must be subjected to an inventory."  If only the Chi-Coms would just keep her there…

 

The Obama administration is not inviting the Queen of England, who actually served in World War II, to D-Day festivities.

 

A CNBC reporter was reprimanded by the Saudi Oil Minister for calling OPEC a "cartel."  Meanwhile, the cartel is pushing oil prices above $65 per barrel.

 

Only 37% of Americans believe that the country is headed in the right direction.

 

Congressman and candidate for Governor Nathan Deal says that his introduction of the birthright citizenship bill has nothing to do with political timing for his run for Governor.  The bill itself has nothing to do with his run for Governor, so I believe him.

The Affirmative Action Supreme Court Nominee

More information is constantly emerging about Obama's Supreme Court pick, Sonia Sotomayor.  On the appeals court level she has already gone one-up on the Kelo decision, and she has sided with fish over humans in the last two years, so she's not a fan of property rights and she will support environmentalists.  Apparently she isn't a remarkable judge, as even liberals are attacking her for lacking "intellectual depth."  Basically, she's the affirmative action nominee, just like Barack Obama is the affirmative action President.  Liberals attacked Miguel Estrada, another Hispanic who happens to be a conservative, in 2003 as an "affirmative action candidate."  There are, of course, plenty of questions to ask Sotomayor, which will come up in the Judiciary Committee hearings, but already there are allegations and defenses of "judicial activism," even though I don't think anybody knows what it really means.  I'll tell you today.

 

North Korea says that it will no longer abide by the armistice that ended the Korean War in 1953, as they continue to test fire missiles.  Russia is even preparing for the possibility of a nuclear conflict on the Korean peninsula.  The Obama Administration, on the other hand, is treating this as nothing but "bluster" and "nastiness."  It also doesn't help that the Obama Administration isn't even sure who's really in control in North Korea.  Don't you feel safe with this guy in office?

 

It looks like GM will end up in bankruptcy after all, but the government could end up with up to 69% ownership.  Meanwhile, in the continuing fight over Chrysler, it turns out that it was not the company's decision to cut dealerships (that means it was the Obama administration's decision), and that profitable dealerships might have been cut to benefit big Democrat donors.  There has been no transparency on how those decisions were made.

 

The latest idea to stop "global warming" is to force everybody to paint their roofs white.

 

Obama's newest czar is the "cyber czar," with authority to develop strategies to protect both government and private computer networks.

 

The explosion of the national debt threatens America, according to the Financial Times.  China has even warned the Federal Reserve to stop "printing money" to handle the debt, and on Capitol Hill Democrats are pushing for a Value Added Tax.  I'll explain what that is on the show today.

Obama Picks Supreme Court Justice

President Obama's pick for the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor, is just what we expected:  a far-left liberal who is also a payoff to certain interest groups (namely women and Hispanics).  We have a big stack on her today, including her belief that a minority can render better decisions than a white male and that policy is made by courts.  She recently rejected a reverse discrimination case, but she has almost nothing on abortion.  Even liberals have criticized her for being intellectually shallow.  Here are some of her other opinions, including one in which she held that the Second Amendment only applies to the federal government.  As of Sunday, before the nominee was known, Republicans were still threatening a filibuster.

 

North Korea tested a nuclear weapon over the holiday weekend, giving the United States less than an hour's worth of notice before detonation.  President Obama calls it a "grave concern," and the UN Security Council has sent Kim Jong "Mentally" Il a letter telling them how angry they are.  The Norks responded by test-firing more missiles.  Meanwhile, "Crazy" Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says that the debate over the Iranian nuclear program is "over" and that they will pursue nukes, rejecting efforts by the West to negotiate the program.

 

Transportation Secretary and Obama Administration token Republican Ray Lahood wants to "coerce people out of their cars."

 

The British government is trying to get rid of certain foods because they are considered bad for the environment.  Global warming is all about control, not about saving the planet.  Al Gore is pushing business leaders to ask for global warming action, saying that "Mother Nature does not do bailouts."

 

The state of Maryland raised taxes on its richest citizens, and—surprise!—those evil, nasty, filthy, stinking rich people left.  British banks are threatening to turn down American clients if the Obama administration follows through on its plan to track American earnings wherever they go around the world.

 

President Obama admits that the United States is out of money.  This could get even worse as more Americans start claiming early retirement from Social Security.

 

The Saudi Arabian Oil Minister says that oil will reach $75 per barrel.  It's ok, you can go on thinking it's the oil companies who are the bad guys.

USA To Lose AAA Bond Rating?

Tax cheat Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is promising to cut the budget deficit as some analysts believe that the United States may lose its AAA bond rating.  What's wrong with that statement?  CNN says that, because the United States is a deadbeat, there's nothing to worry about.

 

The President of the Federal Reserve of Philadelphia says that inflation will increase, and the dollar continues to get weaker.

 

Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), who is leading the charge for socialized medicine in the Senate, says that the socialized medicine plan won't cover illegal aliens…for now.

 

The Senate is considering a 145% tax hike on beer.

 

The Supermax prison in Colorado would not be ready to take on Guantanamo Bay detainees.  Clown Prince Vice President Joe Biden says that the decision to close Gitmo was "like opening Pandora's Box."

Islamic Terror Plot Foiled in New York

The FBI arrested four homegrown Islamic terrorists trying to bomb synagogues and shoot down planes in New York City.  The suspects converted to Islam in prison.  They were not part of a larger Islamic terrorist group, which makes them even scarier.

 

President Obama and former Vice President Cheney both gave speeches on national security this morning, with Obama including his idea that Guantanamo Bay prisoners will come to the United States.  Cheney mopped the floor with Obama.  Here is the raw text for Obama, here it is for Cheney.  Cheney's approval ratings are rising these days; the Bush Administration should have used him more.

The new CAFE standards will only be effective if gas prices get high again, because otherwise people will buy larger vehicles not subject to those standards.  They'll pay more for them, but that's what the American people want.  The new standards could kill more Americans than the Iraq War.

Democrats are trying to get a bailout for minority-owned broadcasters.

 

House Democrats have hired a speed-reader to read the 946-page cap and trade bill.  They want to get this thing passed this week.

 

The Republican National Committee is having a special meeting to, in part, consider a resolution to call the Democrat Party the "Democrat Socialist" Party.  RNC Chairman Michael Steele spoke yesterday, promising to take on President Obama head-on and for the Republicans to emerge as the party of new ideas.  I'm still waiting on those ideas.

 

If you want to pass something, you can always count on the laziness of elected officials like they did in Louisiana.

 

Some people are trying to draft State Rep. Austin Scott to run against Jim Marshall next year.  His chances for success are significantly better there than in his run for Governor.

 

Macon and Bibb County held a forum on the pandemic flu yesterday.  Less than 10 people showed up.

 

Mayors Reichert and Walker met last week.  I hope Mayor Walker told Reichert to keep their gangs in Macon.
