Hedge Funds Defend Themselves

The results of the bank "stress tests" are due tomorrow, and already banks are saying that they will need more capital.  This will be used as justification for more socialization.

Information on how the "stimulus" will be spent is hard to track down because the government website that is supposed to be tracking the money won't have details until at least October.

The Obama Administration isn't going to prosecute Bush Administration officials, just try to get the lawyers disbarred, for the "torture" of Islamic terrorists.

India, Ireland, and American businesses will all be affected by the Obama Administration's "global tax raid," as described by the Wall Street Journal.

This could have stayed private, but Elizabeth Edwards went on Oprah to talk about her husband's affair and the book she wrote about it.  Shame on her for exploiting it.

Dave Ramsey gets the FairTax wrong.

We have two letters today, one locally and one on a blog, that both give the same advice to the Republicans that I would:  drop the social issues.  Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels tells Republicans to stop whining and mount a real opposition to the Obama administration.

There are new allegations of the White House using intimidation tactics against hedge funds that owned some of Chrysler's secured debt.  One hedge fund manager has written an opinion piece detailing what they do and why the President's tactics are wrong.

The Oklahoma House of Representatives passed a resolution claiming Oklahoma's sovereignty.

The Los Angeles Unified School District pays teachers not to teach thanks to the teacher's union.

According to Gallup polls, Al Gore is losing the debate over global warming.  People are more worried about the economy.

The Democrats gave "Benedict" Arlen Specter the shaft, making him the junior Democrat on committees.

Just as I said last week, only 35% of American voters view capitalism and a free market economy as the same thing.

A majority of Americans think that every American should go to college.

Forbes magazine says that the recession is over.

The Census bureau will use GPS tagging at individuals' homes.  I'm not too worried about that; after all, look at Google Earth.

A teenager was arrested by the FBI with no warrant and no due process under the Patriot Act.  This is the first time I've heard of it being abused.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to study the effects of legalizing and taxing marijuana in California.  This should be done, not just studied, across the country.

Here's a case of a lawful gun owner preventing a crime.  There need to be more of these.  This comes as a Gallup poll shows that more Americans oppose gun control than ever.

Teen pregnancy rates are on the rise in Georgia.

Governor Perdue approved the sales tax holiday from July 30 to August 2 this year.  Just so you know when to avoid the malls and Wal-Mart.

The Georgia PTA wants middle and high schools to start teaching classes about crime and punishment.  How about teaching economics and the Constitution?

I forgot to mention the groundbreaking for the Little League site yesterday.  They broke ground in a sand box indoors to protect the politicians' wingtip shoes.

A Thunderbirds pilot spoke to students at Warner Robins High School on Friday.  I have to admit, I'm jealous.
