Sine Die Day in Atlanta

Democrat local politicians in Burleson, Texas are trying to kill a Tea Party there.

President Obama, still at the G-20, earlier today complained about American "arrogance."  You see, nothing about America was good until he won the election.  Upset about the fact that they are economically insignificant, Iran and Venezuela are having their own summit, and Hugo Chavez said that "Capitalism needs to go down."  I guess Hugo didn't realize that they're working on that, one executive compensation limit at a time.

Obama met with bank CEOs last week, and he played the Godfather role again, essentially demanding that they pay protection to the administration.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development published a blacklist of tax havens.  Have to make sure that government can get your hard-earned money.

The Obama budget passed yesterday, with Jim Marshall opposing and Sanford Bishop supporting it.  At least cap and trade isn't a part of it.

Newt Gingrich says that there could be a large conservative third-party movement in 2012.

The Iowa Supreme Court has legalized gay marriage in that state.  This really doesn't bother me, except that it was done by judicial fiat rather than through their legislature.  Republicans smell blood in the water.

We have two stories today from the peaceful, serene, loving, caring religion of Islam.  First, Afghanistan just passed a law to make it legal for men to rape their wives.  In Pakistan, Taliban members publicly flogged a woman for alleged adultery, recorded the video on their cell phones, and then posted it on YouTube.  Meanwhile, a federal judge has decided that civilian courts can handle the cases of detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

The latest lefty cause-du-jour is saving the New York Times.  Seriously, it's right up there with Darfur.  That might change if their columnists keep comparing Obama's economic ideas to Hitler's.

Some fried chicken restaurants in New York City are in trouble for using Obama's name in their signs.

Today is, of course, the last day of the General Assembly.  We'll be following what's going on, but I won't post any updates here (there's just too much to post).  I will link you to a partial list of the big bills to come up today and the blogs I will be following all day:  Peach Pundit, Georgia Legislative Watch, AJC's Political Insider, Macon Telegraph reporter Travis Fain's Lucid Idiocy, and the AJC's Gold Dome Live.

Kelly McCutchen of the Georgia Public Policy Foundation puts the state budget in perspective.

Locally, the Houston County Board of Education managed to cut the budget without eliminating any jobs.  They also punted on raising taxes.
